Child-safe Child-friendly Policy

At Griggs Outdoor Adventure Learning - GOAL we want children and young people who participate in our programs to have a safe and happy experience. We support and respect our children, young people, staff, volunteers and students.

This policy is called Griggs Outdoor Adventure Learning - GOAL's Child-safe Child-friendly Policy. Our policy guides staff and volunteers on how to behave around kids while working with us.   • We listen to kids' views, respect what they say and involve them when we make decisions,
    especially about matters that will directly affect them.
  • Promote respect, fairness and consideration for all staff, volunteers and students.
  • We maintain a rigorous and consistent recruitment, screening and selection process.
  • All those employed by us must undergo the Working with Children Check.
  • All complaints can be addressed to Nathan Griggs in writing or expressed verbally. See our contact details.
  • Our Child Safety Contact Persons are Ingrid and Peter Griggs who manage all complaints or concerns.
  • We will hold regular information sessions for staff, volunteers and students.
  • Our policy will be discussed during induction sessions for all new staff, volunteers and students.
  • Kids, parents, schools joining our program/s can view a copy of this policy online.
  • The policy and guidelines will be reviewed regularly and incorporate comments and suggestions from children and young people, parents, staff, volunteers and students.

Our Code of Conduct

Griggs Outdoor Adventure Learning - GOAL provides an open, welcoming and safe environment for everyone participating in our programs.

  • We provide high quality program(s) for kids that are safe and welcoming for them.
  • We seek advice and guidance from kids, parents and colleagues so these standards are maintained.
  • Treat everyone with respect and honesty (this includes staff, volunteers, students, children, young people and parents).
  • Strive to be a positive role model to kids.
  • Exercise appropriate behavior and sets boundaries between the kids and us.
  • Follow ‘Child-safe Child-friendly’ policy and guidelines for the safety of children.
  • Always have another adult present or in sight when conducting one to one coaching, instruction etc. unless otherwise pre-arranged and pre-approved.
  • Record and act on serious complaints of abuse.
  • We do not develop any 'special' relationships with children that could be seen as favoritism such as the offering of gifts or special treatment.
  • We do not do things of a personal nature that a child can do for themselves, such as going to the toilet or changing clothes.

Kids and other Participants Code of Conduct

Much like our staff and volunteers who abide by their code of conduct we would expect all children and other participants to abide by a few codes of conduct so please ….

  • Be respectful and friendly to everyone and welcome new people joining the group.
  • Play by the rules.
  • Have a say about the activities you take part in.
  • Report any concerns or worries.
  • Do not be a bully!
  • Do not leave the group without telling an adult where you are going.
